In an interview I read with Daphne Guinness one thing she said while talking about her love affair with Couture has always really stuck with me. That being, how she has always encouraged and inspired, acting as a muse to other creatives, but personally lacks the drive or self belief to do as she encourages others to do.
Daphne Guinness’ humbling honesty, inspiration and her belief in quality and craftsmanship which will be treasured forever is something all too rare in this high street society.
"The thing about haute couture, unlike prêt-à-porter clothing, is that you actually have to engage with the process and repeatedly go for fittings. Couture clothes last so much longer because so much work goes into them."
Sure not everyone can afford to eat breakfast in couture but this active involvement within design and manufacture would surely make the world a much more exciting and appreciated place.
You could look at it as highly narcissistic, but Daphne Guinness is like an artwork. An artwork with impeccable taste.
