Grey Skies and White Cubes

I finally made it this week to the new (or now not so new) White Cube Gallery Bermondsey St.

After walking each London street time and time again, nothing provides more of thrill than that of seeing something new, something unique which stands out and pushes the city into the new rather than commercialising and stagnating it. The White Cube hit that note, this bland 70's building as been transformed into a beautifully imposing gallery full of fresh bright light and polished concrete floors in a style seen more commonly in Kreuzberg or the Meat Packing District of New York rather than home soil.

The space was jaw dropping, the exhibition equally imposing and rather than inhibiting it, the grey rain filled sky made The White Cube all the more magical.

69 Colebrooke Row

Another incredible Cocktail Bar ... and not so many miles away.

Mulberry Polly Push Lock

After Mulberry's mistakes over the past seasons, heading more towards commercial tack than developing their signature quality, it appears that they are back on track with the Polly Push Lock.
Simple and classic.

Playful, Beautiful, Love it!

architectural lines

The architectural shapes are so powerful, with a strangely eerie romance about them. I love the way in which the model almost becomes more of the backdrop to the buildings than the other way around. Very few photographers have that confidence. Shoot by Katie Coleslaw for nothingbadmag.com

Tausend Bar, Berlin

If in Berlin... go. If not in Berlin... go just for this bar.

The cocktails, the decor, the atmosphere, the clientele, make this one of the best bars in the world. Its sister bar at Hotel Amano, Berlin is also one to not miss out on.

A beautiful picture

The contrast of textures is beautiful, from the sand to the washed out sky, the chain mail costume against flawless porcelain skin her immense mop of beach hair.

Max Lamb Pewter Stools

I came across these stools designed and handmade by Max Lamb several years ago but this is one design that I have never forgotten about. Although he did sell out slightly in selling the design to Habitat who mass produced a more angular and less romantic design, these originals are (in my opinion) breathtaking.

Formed by pouring molten Pewter into sand mould sculpted into a Cornish beach, each piece has an amazingly natural uniqueness. And the concept behind it... simple but brilliant.

Bodkin

The most perfectly composed, simplistic detailing of any collection I've seen for a while. Perfect model too.

Mind Blowing Simplicity

No one quite achieves easy, elegant jersey tailoring quite like Alexander Wang. I love everything about his styling and ethos.
Anyone can look great dressed up and manicured, but its the way you dress the rest of the time that shows true style.

too much time wasted dreaming

A year is a long time spent waiting for something you really want. After 15 months and 22 years of picturing the perfect apartment, I'm still waiting but the ideas and inspirations keep building up (as does the classic design chair collection).

Space is so important, I think you need that as the basis for everything else to evolve from ... At least I do.

The Impossibility of Coke Bottles

In an attempt to reconstruct a mental creation of a glass/light sculpture I had a while back I collected a lifetimes supply of empty glass coke bottles. The idea is something like this but currently no more than an impractical and distant dream

Another Damien Hirst and future purchase

Although I would agree Damien Hirst has become very repetitive and commercial, I can't help but love these pieces, however hard I try.

Maryam Nassir Zadeh

I want a shop and it would pretty much be this...

Boo George and Gillian Wilkins

This shoot for Twin magazine is incredible, with so much depth but simplicity to the styling and the photographs.

Nick Knight

It wasn't until recently that I really noticed how experimental and unconventional Nick Knights photographs are. I can't say I love his work in general but there are some incredibly thoughtful and sensitive aspects to it. Such as this image for Jil Sander, 1992. This is one image that is perfect for me in every way.

Pizza East

London is for me lacking in places that totally absorb you. Where you could be anywhere in the world, but only conscious of the present. Pizza East did that for me. The atmosphere is intoxicatingly vibrant and unique.

Pamela Love

The thing about Pamela Love Jewellery is its ability to remain edgy and modern without being pretentious. In simple terms this is beautiful craftsmanship that definitely deserves a place on my wrist.

Story boutique

Hidden behind the sweeping branches of an overhanging vine lies one of my favourite shops, (if you can call it that). Story is more like an elegant, organic installation, ever changing and open only for a few hours each week.

Intrigued, I did my own bit of research. I couldn’t find much on interior designer and creator of Story Ann Shore, but the few images I did, portray the beauty that she captures in her enchanting shop.

Daphne Guinness

In an interview I read with Daphne Guinness one thing she said while talking about her love affair with Couture has always really stuck with me. That being, how she has always encouraged and inspired, acting as a muse to other creatives, but personally lacks the drive or self belief to do as she encourages others to do.

Daphne Guinness’ humbling honesty, inspiration and her belief in quality and craftsmanship which will be treasured forever is something all too rare in this high street society.

"The thing about haute couture, unlike prêt-à-porter clothing, is that you actually have to engage with the process and repeatedly go for fittings. Couture clothes last so much longer because so much work goes into them."

Sure not everyone can afford to eat breakfast in couture but this active involvement within design and manufacture would surely make the world a much more exciting and appreciated place.

You could look at it as highly narcissistic, but Daphne Guinness is like an artwork. An artwork with impeccable taste.

Loft design by

I came across the new Loft shop in Notting Hill entirely by chance, failing to connect it to the beautiful store in St Paul, Paris. The simple elegance of the collections sit beautifully within the chic but almost quirky shop. Loft is my new favourite shop for basics, fine knitwear, jackets and just about everything.
